The construction of the "Deichwelle" all-weather leisure pool is one of the most ambitious projects in the history of Neuwied am Rhein. The district town, which lies behind an impressive dyke wall, saw it as its duty to continue to offer its approximately 65,000 inhabitants a bathing opportunity in the town centre.

An existing bathroom was outdated and could no longer be renovated economically. A modern bathroom with indoor and outdoor areas, relaxation and experience zones was to be created. The client, Stadtwerke Neuwied, commissioned the architectural firm Blass from Euskirchen with the planning. This firm is one of the most experienced pool planners in Germany and created a real showpiece for the town, and not just architecturally. Even from a distance, the striking roof construction in the shape of a wave catches the eye. Referring to the dyke city, the roof is reminiscent of a breaking wave.
