The excavation is located north of Hamminkeln in the area of exploitable sand and gravel deposits of the lower Rhine terrace. The mineral resources are extracted here by wet excavation. After recultivation, a lake landscape is created.

The majority of the excavation lakes will be used for biotope and species protection. A partial area is also to be used for fishing. The planned use of the excavation lakes as retention areas for the floods of the "Kleine Issel" represents a contribution to flood protection in the Issel region.

Environmental impact studies, recultivation concepts and landscape conservation plans were prepared for the excavation areas approved in several planning approval procedures. The services also included the preparation of all permit applications and procedural support. In the course of the northeast expansion, the relocation and near-natural redesign of the Kleine Issel was simultaneously regulated in the planning approval. The implementation planning for the watercourse relocation is currently being processed.

On site, the restoration and planting of the excavation areas was accompanied.
